This trick is mentioned in the documentation for the BEGINFILE pattern, but not spelled out as code. You’re welcome. 😀

Just realized Ruby’s File.basename can also filter out (arbitrary) file extensions. 😀
File.basename("foo/bar/baz.html", ".*") #=> "baz"
